About the event
In this ONE-time class, young mathematicians (kids grades 3-5th) will be introduced and taught numbers on the number line (positive and negative) as well as be introduced to the coordinate plane and plotting points. This is a critical skill later in algebra (grades 6-8) and higher level thinking but I believe young kids have the capability to understand and process it. In introducing this concept at an early age, your kids will not only be exposed to higher level thinking but will ENGAGE with the material and create some fun pictures and diagrams with it in interacting with other young learners throughout my class. The goal of this class is for them to have a POSITIVE memory of these algebra concepts so that when they get to algebra later on, it is also very fun and engaging for them and will help them to be successful.
The class will first be introduced to the concept through my demonstration on the zoom screen share. Then in the 2nd 1/2 of the class, the kids will have an opportunity to ENGAGE with the material and other kids and create their own shapes and fun letters and simple drawings on the coordinate plane.
Kids will get to interact with myself, and other kids in the class as well through their active participation and the game/activity.
*Learners do NOT have to come with any previous knowledge of graphing as this is an introduction class for ages 3rd-5th grade.
All concepts taught align with the state learning standards for mathematics.
***Please have your learner come with paper and pencil. If they have graph paper at home, that is beneficial to have on hand as well. (if not, it's no worries)
